Kit Larceny and the Airship of Destiny
Synopsis
What if the world was actually a museum? Who would be its curators, and who its visitors?
Told in dual-narrative first-person, Kit Larceny is the story of bi-racial twins Kit and Larceny Sullivan (collectively Kit Larceny) who, having grown up on a remote Pacific island, persuade their widowed father to send them to a Sydney boarding school – a decision they soon regret. However, they are rescued from St Egbert’s College by their charming and eccentric Aunt Angelica, who shares Larceny’s paranormal powers.
But Angelica turns out not to be their aunt at all but a jaded supernatural being known as a Curator who’s robbing the world’s great museums and has abducted the twins’ very much alive mother. Angelica forces them to help her rob the British Museum. When the heist goes horribly wrong, the three are separated but all make their various ways to Alexandria – the enormous organic museum concealed in the snowbound forests of northern Finland. There the twins must confront Angelica, rescue their mother and deal with Mandisa and Molly – two evil Curators who want to enslave humanity with genetically-modified people called Augments.
Kit Larceny is a well-paced and inspirational story that explores themes of sibling rivalry, self-knowledge, resilience and independence.
The target audience is 12-year-olds and up, of any gender, who are into Philip Pullman, S F Said, Ransom Riggs and Neil Gaiman, especially those who enjoy a gripping story with a twist of humour. It is ideal for readers looking for some hope for the future in this frightening world of ours.
